WE ALL DRESS UP LIKE THE PIANO KEY
I am a new person in the workplace. When I was getting used to the workplace culture, I noticed that the dress code was very uniform, as everyone wore similar black and white clothes. There were no bright colours when eating in the lunch hall, and the whole scene looked lifeless. The supervisors are always happy to look at workers, all adjusted to uniformity. I think the dress code here is to break down individual differences and personalities; it is a visual representation of “absolute obedience” in a strict workplace. In this project, I used uniformed male and female dolls as an element to make them appear in a crowded and uncomfortable state in stereo-typically serious working spaces. In the second piece of my work, the dolls were placed orderly on the piano. They look like musical notations with a pleasing sense of rhythm, reflecting the inner feeling of senior leaders when they see well-groomed staff. I settled on a camera position to take photos of the dolls of different positions in the set. Then, I combined them into one image by using Photoshop.
