TOXIC LABELS
Artist Statment
In my middle school years, I faced verbal bullying about my body shape, leaving a lasting impact on my character and behaviour. Although I harbour no resentment towards my classmates now, the experience shaped my sensitivity and guarded demeanour, affecting my communication style and self-expression.
This personal journey inspired my art project, where I use installations to depict the emotional aftermath of verbal bullying. Through my work, I aim to raise awareness about the weight and consequences of words, urging people to consider the impact of their speech. My installations represent a plea for a world where individuals can grow in an environment of love and confidence, free from the fear of hurtful words.
Photography, for me, is more than capturing moments; it's a powerful means of expressing my thoughts on social issues through personal experiences. It provides a direct and immediate way to convey my perspective, surpassing traditional mediums like drawing or modelling. Photography serves as both an outlet for creative expression and a gateway to understanding others.
Excited by the potential of various materials and visual methods, I explore colours, lighting, shadows, printing, and post-processing. These elements help visually structure the intersection of societal phenomena and my own emotions. In the future, I aspire to delve deeper into the relationship between myself and society, exploring the possibilities of combining photography with other mediums and diverse installation methods.
